“Act as if what you do makes a difference. It does.” ~ William James
Today, I am thinking about what it means to be intentional. Do you think about how you want to spend each day? Do you plan or schedule what you want and can get done? Or are you on auto pilot, getting up each day and doing the same thing you did yesterday reacting to whatever comes your way? When you are with friends and family are you completely present? Do you tend to be distracted with thoughts of what needs to be done instead of focusing on who you are with?
Most people are good and have good intentions. I do not think any of us go through our days looking to cause harm or angst to anyone.
What does it mean to be intentional? To be intentional is to act on purpose. To do something with a deliberate thought in mind.
Being intentional means you are fully present in every moment. When you are working, you are fully present focusing on the job at hand. When you are home, you are with your family not worrying about the workday and valuing your time together.
How can we be more intentional every day?
• Choose to be kind
• Get off social media sometimes and talk to someone special and really listen
• Do something you love
• Get outside
• Rethink your to do list and the have-tos
• Take time for you every day
I am reminded of family times. When we get together, we catch up, we laugh, we joke and enjoy each other. The memories we share are of the moments, never about stuff or material things we have or want or did not get.
So today, be intentional. Let go of what may or may not have to get done and completely be in each moment. Slow down and as you have heard a million times before, “stop and smell the roses.” Being intentional is always a good thing to practice as much as you can.
To you and deliberate intention.
