Have You Checked Your Fun Meter Lately?

We’re more than halfway through the month of January. How’s everything going? Are you making time for fun? Just to be lighthearted. No have-to’s. Nothing you should do. Just plain old fun.

Sometimes being adults is overrated. We get caught up in always doing, being responsible, checking things off the ever long to do list and helping our families. Sometimes trying to be everything to everyone gets way too much.

It was so nice to spend time with my brother’s grandchildren during the holidays. Children are the best teachers. Their delight in everything is contagious. Watching the excitement in their eyes over being with everyone, treats galore and of course a mountain of gifts to open and enjoy. They couldn’t contain their joy!

We all need to have more fun. Important stuff never goes away but the benefits of having fun far outweigh the daily things that come up.

Why not take time the next few days to do something fun?

Is there something favorite you and your kids like to do together? A favorite movie to watch or a favorite game to play? Maybe with snow all around, a snowball fight is in order!

What about connecting with friends? A spur of the moment pot luck lunch or dinner. Everyone brings something and you all enjoy being together catching up.

Do you crave some alone time? Get lost in a good book, cozy blanket and some hot chocolate.

If you can’t get together in person with anyone, why not Facetime or Zoom and get lost in good conversation?

The point is sometimes doing something for fun gives you a chance to kick back, recharge your batteries and just enjoy life.

The have-to’s never go away. When you have fun and take time for yourself, the have-to’s don’t feel so have-to after all. More importantly, when you have fun and enjoy yourself how much nicer are we all to be around? People gravitate more to others who know how to gets things done and still find time for fun.
