“Survival can be summed up in three words – Never Give Up! That’s the Heart of it Really. Just Keep Trying.” ~ Bear Grylls
Sometimes day to day reality can feel like a war zone. All we can do is find ways to survive the day. Too much going on all at once. Too many things out of control impacting the day. Too many feelings and emotions swirling around can put us in a funk.
How do you manage?
Do you stay in bed and pull the covers over your head?
Do you grin and bear it, a white-knuckle kind of day?
Are you ornery all day long and God help the person who crosses your path?
It’s all about survival.
Most equate a survival kit with a dire situation or unexpected emergency. We rarely think a survival kit could be a tool to help in everyday situations. Having a survival kit designed by you because you know yourself best can be one of the most effective tools you can create.
On a day when it’s all too much, what essentials can you utilize to get through the muck? What would your survival kit look like?
• A healthy eating routine with enough rest to ensure you can maintain the long haul?
• Time to sit and pray?
• Contact with supportive friends and family?
• A journal to empty your mind of everything bothering you?
• Time outdoors, a walk with nature?
• Inspirational Reading?
• “Escape” reading?
• Time away to see a movie, watch a sitcom?
• Your phone or mp3 player filled with all your favorite music?
Anything you can think of to keep you sane and healthy is worth putting into your survival kit. Make sure to keep it handy and close by. It might also be important to share your “kit” with a close friend or family member. On those days when you are all over the place, they can remind you to take care of you first.
When we have tools at our disposal to manage the tough days, the tough days don’t matter as much or occur as often. It’s worth the effort to pull out the arsenal of good habits, thoughts and activities to combat those days when life happens and causes drama.
To a survival kit that works for you!
