“Don’t wait for your feelings to change to take action. Take the action and your feelings will change.” ~ Barbara Baron
If there was one outstanding lesson that I’ve learned since going through my divorce, it was that taking action, is still the best decision I’ve made to move my life forward. Taking action regardless of how I might have been feeling at the time, just doing something, has brought about the most progress, given me the best results and was the surest and fastest way to feel better.
It is a daily mantra these days that is necessary if I want to keep my life moving in the direction of my dreams and how I want to show up and be in the world.
So I ask you to look around and think about the action that you are taking in your everyday world. Is there an area of your life where you feel stuck? Are you still holding on to grief, pain, loss, anger or resentment that if you were to create some movement, might just shift your position? Help you to feel better? Resolve the conflict? Move you closer to your dreams? Change your life?
Action heals.
Action is the answer to just about everything we want to do, to be, to have.
Action will cause you to feel better, move forward, and accomplish any goal faster than anything else out there.
Yet, action is an internal battle for many of us. It is an ongoing fight we have and one that we consistently avoid at all costs.
Action means change and change is difficult and painful when we are not prepared for it. Change is hurtful when there is loss. On the other hand, change is necessary for us to learn and to grow. Change is a teacher for healing and as we learn to take action, life will reward our accomplishments.
Action does not have to be a grand gesture. Action can be one very small step. Done consistently, every small step will turn into many small steps, one after the other that leads to something beautiful and wonderful.
So what will taking action do for you?
- Action will… Remind you that you are stronger than you think – we are very capable of handling life’s up and downs
- Action will… Help you to build your “confidence” muscles – challenging your coping skills so that you adopt new behaviors that will in turn show you the strength that you really have inside which inevitably boosts your confidence
- Action will… Help you to manage your emotions – our emotions exist to give us pleasure and meaning to our lives, not to interfere and overrun us. Your emotions belong to you. You do not belong to your emotions.
- Action will… Improve your self-esteem – when we feel good about ourselves, we instantly send the message that we are succeeding and negotiating our life in a positive way which enhances our self-esteem.
So my friend, what action step can you take today? I invite you to look at how action is manifesting in your life. Are you holding yourself back or are you continuously moving forward?
One thing I know for sure is that we only get one turn at this life, so we need to make ourselves a priority in order to have the best life that we can. Taking action, one small step at a time will put you in the driver’s seat. You will always have the ability to take control, make your own decisions and respond to life’s difficulties in the ways that you want to and not in the ways that leave you in a position of reacting and being scattered.
That’s a great place to be, don’t you think?
