“Until you’re broken, you don’t know what you are made of. It gives you the ability to build yourself all over again, but Stronger than ever” ~ Author Unknown
At some point, everyone will face challenging times. Unfortunately, we cannot go through life without loss; loss of someone we love, loss of someone we need or the loss of something we thought was meant to be. Dramatic life changes happen and it’s difficult to navigate them when life turns upside down. It doesn’t matter what the loss may be.
Never are these times easy when we are faced with struggle. There are many lessons to learn. Somehow these lessons give us the courage we need to manage difficult times and face our troubles with strength.
Below are five lessons to help you find strength as you face struggles and challenges:
• You can’t control everything that happens to you.
The only one you have the power to control is you and how you react to things. There are both positive and negative aspects to your life so how you feel at any given moment depends upon what you focus on. Choose to focus on the best possible outcome and your energy and spirits will follow in a positive direction.
• You always have a choice.
In every situation, you will always have at least two options, no matter what. Even if you physically can’t change the outcome, you can change the way you think about it. You can do nothing (and that is a choice, too) or you can look within and find parts of yourself you never knew existed.
• Even when it’s hard to move, take small steps forward.
Especially during difficult times, it is important to keep moving forward. No matter how small a step you can take, momentum is everything. One small step leads to another which leads to another and yet another. Before you know it, you will reach your destination. So never give up and always celebrate every step you take today, no matter how small. Many, many small steps in a positive direction will create a habit worth repeating that you will welcome doing over and over in good times and bad.
• You still have a lot to be thankful for.
Even though there can be so much going on in one’s life, it’s important to keep everything in perspective. Sometimes we need to let go of what is gone, find ways to appreciate what remains and look forward to what’s coming next. There is abundance all around. If you didn’t go to sleep hungry last night. If you slept in a warm bed. If you have clean drinking water. If you have shelter and a roof over your head. If you have clean clothes to wear. If you have friends and family who love you. You are blessed. Being grateful for all you have will help you deal with hard times when they come.
• You have the capacity to create your own happiness.
Time keeps moving no matter what we do. People will come and go. Relationships and feelings change. Loss happens. Love waxes and wanes. During such times, you can hold on to the pain or you can create your own happiness. True happiness comes from within. It helps to always remember hard times will pass. As much as they change you, challenges and struggles empower you to take nothing for granted. Your happiness is up to you.
Struggles come and can take a huge toll on us. They hurt and change who we are. They also teach us how powerful we are as human beings to stand tall and face whatever comes our way.
Wishing you always the resilience to handle whatever life throws at you with love and grace.
