“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ~ Leo F. Buscaglia
We have much to be thankful for. Today is about being thankful for you. You matter just as much as those you care for and love. With so much going on all at once, it sometimes feels like time gets away from us. I wanted to take a few moments to encourage you to slow down, stop, breath and acknowledge all you have accomplished, faced, struggled, lost and mourned, anything you have let go of and moved on from and to take time to praise yourself for showing up as best you can every day.
How are you feeling?
Have you said, “thank you” for being the wonderful person you are?
Are you giving yourself good self-care?
How are you managing stress?
Do you get outside and breathe in fresh air?
Take a brisk walk?
Call a friend? Spend time with family?
Have you laughed today?
What makes you smile?
What are you grateful for?
What do you need right now?
These are just a few questions to help you to think about what matters most to you and what lights you up. Take a few moments whenever you can (if not regularly) and take care of you, first. It’s easy to get caught up doing for others, we forget about ourselves. We deplete our energy, so we have little if anything left to give. This is where trouble sets in and we get stuck. We get stuck in a downhill spiral which leads to other ailments that drain and exhaust us. Putting your own needs and self-care first will allow you to be fully present to those you care about.
In addition to being thankful for you, we need to be aware of those around us. Someone we love and care about may be going through sadness, turmoil, loss, pain or struggle and may be having a difficult time letting anyone close.
As we take care of ourselves, may we never forget to be kind towards those that may need us the most.
