“Today, I choose awareness. I choose to be aware of the beauty of life and living. I choose to be aware of the simple pleasures in life. I choose awareness of joy, awareness of peace and awareness of love.”
~ Iyanla Vanzant
Do you ever wish for a magic wand, like Glenda, The Good Witch in the classic movie, The Wizard of Oz?
Wouldn’t it feel wonderful to just click our heels together and instantly create a problem free life?
It would feel great to not have a care in the world about anything, wouldn’t it?
Well, that’s not the real world. Every life is filled with contrast. Sometimes, our heads can’t process everything and other times our hearts feel broken when life brings loss or the unexpected. It can certainly be too much to juggle and handle all at once.
What do we do?
We, remember simple pleasures.
Regardless of what’s going on in the world, good or bad, we can thrive, be happy and find joy by remembering the simple pleasures that are ours for the taking.
I have lots of simple pleasures that I love:
The smell of a fresh pot of coffee; candles; morning meditation and quotes to fill me with positive motivation; laughs I share with family and friends; laughing so hard it hurts; a long walk in a beautiful park; blasting my favorite music as I drive; catching up with a dear friend; sharing in a group text message when everyone is responding at the same time and you can’t keep up with all the comments fast enough; watching your phone in silent mode just “blow up” because you can’t participate at that very moment; writing in my journal; a smile; a sappy girly movie brings a tear to my eye; a beautiful sunset; saying “Good Morning” to everyone who’s path I cross; a delicious meal; a single rose; the smell of lavender; a great book; a cozy blanket; quilting and sewing a special gift; organizing photos;
All to name a few on my short list!
What are your simple pleasures?
Have you enjoyed them lately?
The summer is here and warm days are many. I challenge you these next few days to dust off one or two of your favorites and bask in the simple pleasure of enjoyment!
There is nothing more important than that you feel good under any circumstance.
Simple pleasures cost you nothing but pure delight. Take a few moments to focus on what fills you up. Your obligations and responsibilities are always there. Relax and enjoy!
